Doug Jackson GalleryI love finding colour and shape in a landscape then refining that down in my graphic style. There is something wonderfully immediate about the power of drawing as a form of capture rather than photography. I tend to work directly onto the paper (bypassing the 'pencil' phase) with ink. drawing with fountain pens and fine liners.

If I am applying colour to an image, I use Daniel Smith watercolours and inks. Inks often give much more dramatic effects than watercolours, especially chromatic inks. Where possible I always draw and paint en plein air but inevitably life gets in the way and I'm happy with working from reference images. There is more infomation in the ARTICLES part of the wesite about my process. |
CommissionsCommissioning an artist to create a piece of art is a wonderful way of forming a relationship with that piece. It is wonderful to look at a handmade original, and know you had a role to play in the creative process.
Some clients will commission landscape pieces where they feel a real connection to those locations. For others, it can be vehicles, boats or houses. From single and charming sketches to large city skylines, its always fun to see what I'll be drawing next and to hear the story behind the picture. Please do get in touch to discuss your ideas. |
