Boat Portraits and Coastal Views
I have grown up around boats and the people who work, sail and play on them. I love sailing and regularly get chance to play in friends’ boats and hopefully I’ll have another one myself when the kids are a little older. Being on the water, or even near the water, is generally where I feel most as peace. My family at one time owned a chandlery so I’m also very familiar the many components on board boats and also their mysterious names. Aged 11 I already knew the bumpkin was above the lazarette and the difference between the clew and the tack on a sail. I have taken part in a fair bit of yacht racing and cruising in my time. Unfortunately, my favourite places to spend time on afloat in the UK are about as far from Sheffield as you can get. But at least I’m in the middle of them, Cornwall and the Hebrides.

Coast and estuaries are my favourite places to overnight and those magic, last and first bits of the day, when you feel like the world’s last (or first) human are so precious.
Boats are a big subject in my art and I have decided to offer boat portraits to my clients.
Commissioned art could be the perfect gift for a loved one or you could treat yourself. All that’s required for yourself is a good quality reference photo of the vessel and a little idea about the size you would like. Normally there would be an initial consultation to ensure your requirements are met and then I will create the art. After the initial sketches I will let you approve the line work and then paint the final piece.
So, whether you sail an Optimist or Bristol Pilot Cutter, a canal boat or a powerboat, have a favourite harbour or beach, please get in touch.
